Why choose Snowline Expedition

Plenty of agencies will sell you a Manali trip. Very few of them are actually in Manali when a pass shuts at four in the afternoon.

We started because the trips we were being sold were wrong

Snowline Expedition runs trips out of Manali, from an office on Kanyal Road. We started with a frustration: almost every Spiti package on the market at the time drove people from Manali to Kaza in a single day, gaining nearly two thousand metres of altitude, and then wondered why half the group spent day three unwell.

We built our itineraries the other way round. Decide how the body handles the climb first, then fit the sightseeing to it. It costs an extra night on most high-altitude trips and we have lost bookings to cheaper operators over it. We have also never had to evacuate anybody.

How we work

Everything is run from our office in Manali. The vehicles are ours, the drivers work with us season after season, and the homestays and camps we use are ones we have stayed in. When you book a trip, the person answering your WhatsApp messages is the person who will know where your driver is on day four.

We do not run fixed departures on a rigid calendar. Most of what we sell is private — your group, your dates, your vehicle — because that is what people actually want in the hills and it lets us change the plan when the weather does.

The vehicle is ours, and so is the driver

This matters more than it sounds. A lot of what gets sold as a “Manali package” is subcontracted on the morning of the trip to whichever taxi is standing free at the stand. You meet the driver for the first time on day one, and nobody has told him where you are going.

Ours are the same drivers season after season, on the same routes. They know which stretch of the Kunzum road goes soft after rain and where the phone signal drops so you can message home before it does. You get the driver’s name and number before you travel, not on the day.

Six things that make a difference

We live here

Our office is in Manali, not a call centre in another state. When a pass closes or the weather turns, someone local is already rerouting you.

Our own vehicles and drivers

No last-minute subcontracting to whoever is free. The same drivers work our routes every season and know where the road gives way after rain.

Support for the whole trip

One number, answered at any hour you are on the road with us. Not a ticket queue and not a bot.

Altitude taken seriously

Acclimatisation nights are built into every high-altitude itinerary, and every vehicle carries oxygen. If someone is unwell, we descend. That is not a negotiation.

The quote is the price

Permits, tolls, driver allowance and parking are inside the number we give you. Nothing appears at the end of the trip.

Built around your dates

Tell us how many days you have and what you want to see. Every package on this site started as somebody’s custom request.

What travellers say

We got stuck at Batal when the road washed out. Snowline had us in a homestay within two hours and rebuilt the rest of the itinerary overnight. Nobody charged us extra for any of it.

Booked from Chennai and was nervous about paying an agency I had only spoken to on WhatsApp. They sent the driver’s number three days ahead and he was waiting at the bus stand at 6am.

My mother is 68 and I had been told Rohtang would be too much for her. They planned it so we went up slowly with a night at Sissu first. She managed the whole day.
